Champagne house Veuve Clicquot affirms its strong commitment to design excellence, innovation and audacity with the release of Globalight by Karim Rashid, the second collaboration between the eponymous Champagne House and the prolific designer celebrating Veuve Clicquot’s Rose Champagne.

The unique, limited-edition piece represents Rashid’s modern reinterpretation of the traditional French chandelier, icon of romantic dinners and meaningful moments. In the United States, Globalight will be unveiled exclusively at W Hotels, leader in modern travel, luxury design, and sensory experience.

Its portable nature makes entertaining a gathering of friends or someone special a charming occasion whether at home or on the road. One bottle of Veuve Clicquot Rose will remain chilled for 4 hours and the LED lights will give a soft glow for the same time, making Globalight an ideal accessory for outdoor entertaining.

SeatGuru: For those who must travel overseas without being able to indulge in the comfort of business/first/”i’m kind of a big deal” class, you obviously want to aim to get the best seat as possible. And that means doing your homework before the flight and checking in online as soon as it’s allowed.

TripKick (new!): Launched with about 250 hotels in 10 US cities, with more to follow. Coverage of each hotel includes detailed information on which rooms to request: which rooms are oversized (rooms ending in 03 and 04, for example), which have great bathrooms or are quieter than others. TripKick, which spent a year gathering all of this information, also points out which floors are better, and which to avoid. Guests are encouraged to add their own reviews and upload photos of rooms they’ve stayed in.

Kayak: It’s like the OpenTable of flight reservations. Search for flights around your preferences on price, connections, departure time, arrival time, etc. Good for car and cruises too, or so I’ve heard.

Farecast: Similar to Kayak, Farecast allows you to forecast when your trip may cost the lowest. So if you’re flexible on that 1 week getaway to “as far away from the office as possible,” this would be a good tool to look into.

TripIt: Have quick and easy access to all of your travel arrangements via email or mobile phone. It’s so 2005 to carry paper documents.

Vidnik

28 May 2008 In: Having Fun, Personal

Just ran past Vidnik, a new widget via Google Developer’s Playground, that allows Mac users to save and upload videos that they record via the built-in iSight cam quickly to YouTube. Despite being very (video) camera-shy, I thought I would give it a try for a personal video diary (sorry, the J-A does not do public appearances via YouTube). Although, I could see my good friend Phil enjoying this quite a bit.

Anyway, it’s the first beta edition isn’t bad. Replay in Vidnik is accurate and quick. However, the only problem is that when the video is uploaded to YouTube, the audio lags for about half a second. I think the developer knows this bug and is figuring out how to fix it.

Ok, that’s it. <end nerdiness*>

Nike-

So my Nike+ iPod kit hasn’t been working quite as well as expected. The sensor doesn’t seem to want to sync up to my iPod. On the Apple Support site, it says that I need to have the most up to date iTunes/iPod software (v 1.2) but the highest that it will allow me to install is 1.12?!?!

Sometimes, the sensor is picked up… but then it disconnects after awhile. So frustrating… time to make an apt with the Genius Bar. Ugh.

End vent.

Nike+

18 May 2008 In: Personal

Today I finally resolved to start running again (yes, quite a late new year’s resolution, I know). Actually, technically, it was more about collecting the motivation TO run in the near future. I walked from 95th to 57th, through Central Park, down to the Apple Store. Purchased the Nike+ iPod kit and then walked another two blocks to Niketown and purchased a new pair of running shoes (and socks and sport headphones).

While the distance/time/performance monitoring via iPod concept is cool, I think the idea of data monitoring and experience sharing through the Nike+ online community is even more interesting. I still remember that I use to use the Nike iRun online running log a few years ago, but had to enter my times/distances manually. Now all I have to do is simply plug in my iPod after the run and it uploads the data automatically. There’s also new tools to help set goals and challenges (going to try and convince my friends to get in on a challenge… first person to 100 miles wins $100 or something).

Anyway, this should be a fun experiment to see exactly how this little device will change my running behavior. So stay tuned! In fact, you can keep tabs on my runs via my Run tab.

MUXTAPE : a fabulously simple and slick social music sharing site

So back in HS, I’d exchange real mixtapes with friends. I was introduced to Muxtape through a buddy who made an awesome mix for me. Very cool. I hear it also works on the iPhone (don’t have one to try it on though).

Enjoy my mix: http://juicyadvocate.muxtape.com

So I found Fluid actually via Muxtape. There’s a little app for Muxtape that allows you to browse through all of the featured Muxtapes through Coverflow. Fluid allows you to create Site Specific Browsers (SSBs), which makes for a very special internet browsing experience.

ChaCha is a revolutionary new free mobile answers service for people on the go. ChaCha allows people with any mobile phone – from basic flip phones to advanced smart phones – to ask any question in conversational English and receive an accurate answer as a text message in just a few minutes. With ChaCha, answers are available when you need them… anytime, anywhere. via

I asked ChaCha “where is a good club in manhattan to find electro house music?” and in a few minutes, it responded with 205 Club, which is on my “to hit up” list now.

Watch the video… it’s pretty cool.

I’m not the best judge of exactly how much noodle to cook and tend to dump way too much pasta into the pot and as a result, overeat on the cabs. But this little device looks quite handy to have in my case, or for anyone who wants to measure how much to prepare for one, two, up to four people (which would equate to four girls or two hungry bottomless pit guys). The design can also be used to place hot cooking pots on so as not to burn your counter space when laid upon it.

Why be an advocate?

Because good ideas deserve to be recognized and good design should be impossible to ignore. Because in this message-muddled world, there are still some lines that can catch my eye and win me over. Because the world has never been changed by indifference. Because there are people, places, products and punchlines that have inspired me- and could very likely inspire you too. Because I still need a place to release some personal revelations, raves and rants. Because it's just too damn hard to keep it all to myself.
